Magnus Goes Home to Thor, Day 2

Friday, October 25 2024

Day 2 brought us the Meramec State Park. There's a famous cave there but we didn't go to it--too expensive for the time we had.  We were only staying there because it's a big campground conveniently located near I-44, right along our route.  The campground is beside the Meramec river but didn't have river views. Which is fine. People can get off their lazy butts and go see the water if they want to.  It was just a two-minute walk.

We got a pretty early start and a fairly quick drive, arriving there at about 2pm. By 3pm we were all hooked up and ready to...what?  Without Molly, there was no long walk to take and I prefer not to walk alone too much. Ed and I wandered down to the river briefly. Chickadees, nuthatches, and some little birds that were probably Kinglets. One squirrel.  Surprisingly--or not--I really missed Molly right then.  With her I would have got out and explored some of the trails.

In the morning, getting up without the impetus of needing to take Molly for a walk, was hard. But then getting to sit outside and enjoy my coffee in peace, that was easy. And pleasant. But still, I just really missed the annoyance that is her.

It was a very nice campground. A little crowded, but then, it was a Friday.  The first areas we drove past were very crowded and would have been impossible to enjoy with Molly. But the area I chose (Loop 4 site 181) was small enough and spread out enough that I could have quickly walked Molly out to the road and then gone off on long, lonely walks in either direction.  Too bad.
