Bye, Tyler!
Still very chilly but not raining. The sun tried to peek out on occasion, but by the time we arrived at Indian Creek Recreation Area and took Molly on a walk, it was dark and grey and rather dreary. But at least I warmed up a little during the walk.
As mentioned in the review below, we somehow ended up with the only site in the “loop” that had an inch of sticky mud right where the backside jack stands needed to go. We were still cleaning mud off the pads days later. But it was too much trouble to move reservations.
I kind of liked the place, except…in an almost empty campground, we had neighbors right beside us. They let their dog (and kids) loose and it made me leery of walking Molly by their site. Luckily I was able to cut across the grass and head to the day use area for her evening walk.
On the road leading to the exit, there was a little “Nature Trail.” We went down it a little ways in the morning, but without having any sort of map (the campground map did not include it), I wasn’t sure how far it would keep on going. So I turned back after 15 minutes.
I’d stay at the place again, but only if it were on a weekday during the off
season. It’s the kind of place that
would be too crowded and noisy in summer.
REVIEW: Indian Creek Recreation Area, site 115, $35
Seems a very nice campground, actually, a whole lot of campgrounds. Between “full hook-up” and “premium” and “ultra”, I don’t know why I chose the site I did or which site I would recommend. Just beware – after a heavy rain, the back few yards of site 115 will be covered with an inch of thick, red, slippery mud. None of the others nearby had this problem. I’d avoid this one just in case.
The hookups were conveniently placed and nice. Surface concrete. No shade at our site, but other sites in other loops had plenty. Very nice lady at entrance. The campground was pretty conveniently located a few miles off I-49.
But…I’m not sure I’d come to this place in the summer. People let their dogs run loose and the neighboring sites are way too close. In our loop, the site at the end closest to the lake looked like it had the most privacy. The campground was reasonably quiet because it was not at all crowded--in December--but the nearby gunshots of duck hunting upset my dog.
