Tuesday Dec 9
It was a long drive south from I-10 to get to Cameron, but worth it! We ended up right on the beachfront at an RV park site where the beach was just a long stone’s throw away. (well…I couldn’t throw a stone that far, but a major league baseball player might)
Avocets!
Ring-billed Gull and American AvocetThere was a Northern Harrier cruising the beach front. No Pelicans, but lots of gulls and a few Sanderlings and Killdeer. And Willet, I guess, but the one I saw looked too small to be the usual Willet. I hoped to get a better chance to look next day, because after our walk up and down the beach, it was nearing sunset and the wind was getting really chilly. I sat outside under our cabana roof to type this,ut my fingers were not happy about it.
I also saw an interesting sparrow. I sure hope to get a better look at it tomorrow.
During the drive, I was alternating between wishing I’d only scheduled two nights at the place or wishing I’d only scheduled two nights at the last place. But now that I’m here, this place is quite okay! Two nights at the last place would have been plenty, but here I’m right where I want to be.
(Okay, there are some issues with the campground that really bug me, but you can’t blame it for beach proximity.)
