Magnus in the Swamp

Thursday, Dec 4 2025

First day on our winter camping trip to Louisiana. The morning was very chilly with misty rain. Brrr. We got a late start on purpose, but made it even later by (1) issues connecting the new phone to the sound system bluetooth, (2) looking for a clip for the strap for the Jeep windshield cover, and (3) stopping at Walmart to get the fish for a couple of dinners.

All of these things could have been done in advance. But no matter—we only had a two-hour drive to Tyler State Park.

It was a lovely place despite the cold and damp, especially since were so few other campers there at the time of year. Normally I would expect it to be crowded and noisy. But not on a weekday in December (and weather like that!)

Molly and I took a walk around the lake. The map called it 2.1 miles although it was probably more like 2.25 because the trail didn’t go continuously all the way around. I picked it up at one end of the campground and it took me to the boat ramp where I could take a picture across the water:

Misty picture from earlier:

I saw only a few birds—titmice, grebes, robins—but might have seen many more if it hadn’t been so gray and misty. I just couldn’t see anything! Still, it was a nice walk.
