The whole family went for an excursion at the Purgatory Chasm State Reservation. That’s what the call “Parks” in Massachusetts, “Reservations.”
It was cool! Problem was, we were all together. We looked at the map and thought that the best route for a walk would be to take the chasm loop trail up along the left-hand side, then go through the bottom on the way back. But we couldn’t find the start of the trail and next thing we knew, we were barreling right on through the depth of the crevice at a high rate of speed. We couldn’t get the kids to slow down and so we were unable to stop and enjoy the views, admire the rock and formations and all. And there were a lot of those! Lovely, huge boulders in a jumble of jumbliness. I could have spent hours there.
So we hurried to the end of the trail, found the loop trail for the return trip, and returned along the upper route to the picnic area. And it was over, sigh.
But we had a nice picnic with plenty of food, provided by May, and enjoyed an hour or so on the playground before time to leave.
Not at all a bad way to spend $30 (two $15 out-of-state parking fees). And then we went back to Edward’s, hung out for a bit and then ate some really good Pho at a Thai restaurant in Worcester.
Pool still working!
